My Journey and experience in Automotive Technology !

Hello, everyone! My name is Ammar Zafri bin Kamal, and I’m excited to share my journey into the fascinating world of Automotive Technology. From starting my career with a diploma to pursuing a university degree, it has been an incredible learning experience full of challenges, growth, and moments of awe. In this blog post, I’ll take you through my personal journey, the lessons I’ve learned, and how my education in Automotive Technology has shaped me into who I am today.

The Beginning: A Diploma in Automotive Technology

It all started with a simple interest in cars. Growing up, I was always intrigued by how things worked under the hood of a vehicle. I remember spending hours watching mechanics fix cars and wondering how everything came together. That curiosity led me to pursue a Diploma in Automotive Technology right after high school.

I chose this path because I wanted a hands-on career that would allow me to work with my hands and solve real-world problems. The program itself was intense and challenging, but incredibly rewarding. From engine diagnostics to electrical systems and vehicle repair, I was introduced to every facet of automotive technology.

One of the most memorable aspects of the diploma program was the practical experience. The classroom lessons came to life in the garage, where we could apply our knowledge to real vehicles. This is where I truly understood the complexity of modern cars and the level of expertise required to fix them. My diploma provided me with the fundamental skills needed to work in the industry, including:

  • Engine diagnostics: Learning how to troubleshoot engine problems using specialized tools and techniques.
  • Vehicle systems: Gaining in-depth knowledge of electrical, suspension, brake, and transmission systems.
  • Hands-on skills: Working on various vehicles, performing repairs, and learning from experienced professionals.

While the diploma provided me with the technical skills needed for the job, I soon realized that there was so much more to the automotive world. The deeper I got into the field, the more I wanted to learn. This led me to consider further education.

Transitioning to University: Why I Chose Automotive Engineering

After completing my diploma, I decided to continue my education and pursue a bachelor’s degree in automotive engineering at Universiti technical Malaysia Melaka. It was a big step moving from the hands-on world of mechanics to the more theoretical and research-based environment of university. But I felt that a degree would give me the deeper understanding of engineering principles and cutting-edge automotive technologies that I was seeking.

The transition from diploma to university wasn’t easy at first. The level of theory and the intensity of the coursework were a significant change, but it was also incredibly exciting. University exposed me to a wider range of automotive disciplines, such as:

  • Automotive design and development: Learning how vehicles are designed from scratch and understanding the engineering principles that drive innovation.
  • Sustainable technologies: Exploring the future of electric and autonomous vehicles, and how the industry is moving toward greener, more efficient technologies.
  • Advanced diagnostics: Studying computer-aided diagnostics and learning how modern vehicles rely on complex software systems to function.

One of the highlights of my university experience was the capstone project, where I worked with a team to design and prototype an energy-efficient vehicle. This was a challenging yet rewarding experience, as it required applying everything, I had learned throughout my degree to solve real-world engineering problems.

Key Lessons from My Journey

Looking back on my journey, there are a few key lessons that stand out:

  1. Never Stop Learning: The automotive industry is constantly evolving, with new technologies and innovations emerging all the time. Whether you're working with internal combustion engines or electric powertrains, there’s always something new to learn.

  2. Hands-on Experience is Key: While theory is important, there’s no substitute for getting your hands dirty. Whether you’re troubleshooting a car’s electrical system or designing a new vehicle, practical experience is invaluable.

  3. Adaptability is Essential: The automotive industry is moving towards new technologies like electric vehicles, autonomous cars, and smart systems. As an automotive professional, it’s crucial to stay adaptable and open to learning new skills as the industry evolves.

  4. Collaboration is Crucial: Working with a team, whether in university or on the job, is essential to solving complex problems. Collaboration helps you learn new perspectives and come up with innovative solutions.

From my diploma in Automotive Technology to pursuing my degree in Automotive Engineering, my journey has been one of continuous learning, growth, and excitement. The automotive industry is dynamic and full of opportunities, and I’m grateful for the education and experiences that have brought me to where I am today. I look forward to the future of automotive technology and all the incredible advancements that lie ahead.

Thank you for reading about my journey! If you’re someone who is considering a career in Automotive Technology, my advice is simple: stay curious, embrace challenges, and never stop learning. The road ahead is filled with possibilities, and who knows where it will take you!
